Cybersecurity experts are warning the public about a surge in fake X (formerly Twitter) accounts posing as Ugandan businessman Sudhir Ruparelia, the chairman of the Ruparelia Group.
A quick search of his name on the platform reveals multiple suspicious profiles using his photos and slightly altered versions of his name. Many of these accounts appear nearly identical, but lack any indication that they are parody or fan pages. They also show common warning signs such as very few followers and unauthorized use of his identity.
Ruparelia has repeatedly clarified that he does not operate any personal or official account on X. In a statement issued in June 2025, he urged the public to ignore any messages or posts claiming to come from him on the platform.
According to experts, such impersonation accounts are often used to scam unsuspecting users. They may promote fake investment opportunities, request cryptocurrency payments, or share phishing links—all while exploiting Ruparelia’s well-known business reputation.
Although some of these accounts have been taken down in the past, new ones continue to appear, making the problem ongoing.
Members of the public are being advised to avoid engaging with any X accounts claiming to represent Ruparelia, especially if they send unsolicited messages. Suspicious profiles should be reported through the platform’s tools, and any business dealings should only be confirmed through official Ruparelia Group channels.
Authorities, including the Uganda Police Cybercrime Unit, are urging the public to stay alert, as online impersonation scams increasingly target prominent figures.
