Police in the East Kyoga region say they are steadily uncovering what appears to be a well-organized armed robbery network behind the killing of Kokunda Patricia, a 36-year-old businesswoman and mobile money operator in Soroti City.
Patricia was shot dead in the early hours of April 3, 2026, at around 4:40 a.m., near Goalman Supermarket along Station Road. According to investigators, the attackers ambushed her, shot her, and made off with a handbag containing cash and other valuables.
What initially looked like a single violent robbery has since developed into a much wider criminal investigation. Police say quick action after the incident helped them secure early leads, leading to the arrest of four suspects. That number has now grown to eleven following intelligence-led operations carried out across Soroti and neighboring districts including Amuria, Kalaki, and Abim.
Investigators believe the group operated with clear roles. Some suspects are said to have planned the robbery, others executed it, while additional individuals allegedly provided logistical support such as weapons and transport. One suspect is believed to have pulled the victim out of her vehicle, while another is suspected to have fired the fatal shot. Others are accused of initiating the plan or supplying ammunition used in the attack.
Police have also recovered key evidence they believe directly links the suspects to the crime. This includes a rifle suspected to have been used in the shooting, ammunition, clothing worn during the operation, and a red motorcycle without a number plate believed to have been used for escape. Officers also recovered the victim’s mobile phone.
In terms of the stolen money, authorities say they have so far recovered Shs10.5 million, which is part of the estimated Shs28 million that was taken during the robbery.
The investigation is still ongoing, with police now working to identify and arrest any remaining suspects and to fully dismantle what they suspect is a coordinated criminal network behind the attack. They are also appealing to the public to provide any information that could help advance the case.
