From 4th to 5th July 2025, the Lira Golf Course buzzed with energy and elegance as it hosted the 4th edition of the Lira Ladies Golf Open under the inspiring theme, “Backing Every Bold Swing.” Proudly sponsored by Equity Bank Uganda, the tournament attracted over 100 golfers from across the country, competing in both the professional and amateur categories.

The two-day championship teed off on Friday with professional golfers showcasing their skills, followed by the amateur division on Saturday. Beyond the competition, this year’s edition stood out for its emphasis on the growing role of women in golf, particularly in Northern Uganda—a region where the sport is gaining increasing traction among female athletes.

“As Equity Bank, we value both the social and business dimensions of the community. That’s one of the core reasons we are proud to sponsor the 4th Edition of the Lira Ladies Open Golf Championship,” said Kenneth Okello, Manager, Equity Bank Lira Branch.

The Lira Ladies Open has become more than just a sporting event. It now serves as a dynamic platform for networking, mentorship, and promoting female participation in golf, empowering more women and girls to take up the sport.

At the close of the tournament, Meron Kyomugisha of Kabale Golf Club emerged as the overall winner of the 2025 championship. Golfing talents Martha Babirye and Peace Kabasweka shared second place, reaffirming the strength and promise of Uganda’s women golfers.

Equity Bank’s support for golf dates back to 2008, and the institution continues to view sports as a powerful avenue for social impact, community development, and youth empowerment.
