The SMACK League, powered by Guinness, makes its return this Sunday, February 15, at the IUEA Sports Grounds in Kansanga, Kampala.
After a break of over a month, the league resumes with renewed energy as teams gear up for Matchday 8 of Season 8, dubbed the Valentine’s Edition.
This weekend’s edition of the league will see St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) old boys reconvene for competitive football, complemented by live music to enhance the matchday experience.
On the pitch, five derbies headline the fixtures. The matchday opener sets the tone with an encounter between Elite (2008) and Zuluz (2009), a rivalry that has grown steadily over the seasons.
Other derbies include Gladiators (2016) taking on Lycans (2015), while Outkastz (2005) battle Zimbaz (2006). BlockOwners (2002) will lock horns with Window (2001) in a contest steeped in pride and bragging rights. In what is expected to be one of the standout fixtures of the day, former champions Devils (2004) face off against Window (2003) in a late kick-off.
Defending champions Alks take on Vendors in a fixture that could significantly shape the table standings as the league intensifies.
Meanwhile, matchday hosts MamaTeo Legends, fondly regarded as the elders of the division, face Spartans, the league’s youngest side. The generational showdown adds an extra layer of intrigue to an already packed schedule.
Beyond the football, Matchday 8 will feature a strong live entertainment lineup.
Janzi Band, known for Afrobeat, fusion, contemporary, and world music, will perform at the event, bringing lively rhythms to energize the revelers.
Renowned DJs Bugy and Beast will be on deck, providing the soundtrack to the action, while Lord Amon will be the MC, maintaining the tempo between matches and during the after-party
Denise Paula Nazzinda, the Guinness Brand Manager at Uganda Breweries Limited, welcomed the league’s return.
“It’s good to see the league back after the break. Looking at the fixtures, Matchday 8 is set to be full of competitive football and a great experience for everyone involved. And of course, there’ll be plenty of Guinness for everyone and their crew to enjoy while soaking up the atmosphere,” she said.
With 11 games on the card, including five derbies, and a mix of live entertainment, Matchday 8 of the SMACK League promises a day full of competition, vibes, and alumni spirit.
