Uganda has announced a visa waiver for visitors attending the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, as part of efforts to attract more fans and boost tourism during the continental tournament.
The country will co-host the competition alongside Kenya and Tanzania from June 19 to July 18, 2027.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by Dennis K. Mugimba during a press briefing at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala.
Mugimba said the Cabinet approved a visa-free entry period that will begin one month before the tournament and end one month after it concludes. The move is aimed at making travel easier and positioning Uganda as an attractive destination for international visitors.
He added that Uganda is also working closely with its co-hosts to ensure smooth movement across borders during the competition.
As part of this effort, the three countries are considering introducing a special joint “PAMOJA visa” that would allow fans and visitors to travel freely between Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania throughout the tournament.
A total of 28 teams will take part in the tournament, with Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania qualifying automatically as hosts.
