Andre Ayew scored the only goal of the game to give Ghana a 1-0 victory over Uganda in their opening Group D match at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon. Uganda’s defender Isaac Isinde made a grave defensive error in the 32nd minute that cost the Cranes.

The West Ham winger slotted in a penalty on 32 minutes after captain Asamoah Gyan had been pulled back by Isaac Isinde. Ghana held on the lead to win the game.

Uganda came closest when Faruku Miya hit the outside of a post but could not to force their way back into the game. Uganda pulled more strength in the game with Onduparaka’s Shaban adding in a new wave of energy to the game as Uganda Cranes dominated much of the second half but the equaliser remained elusive.

The Cranes were dominant in the second half and  created several  opportunities but struggled to get behind the Black Stars, who appeared happy to defend their lead and take the sting from the match.

Cranes face an uphill task against Mali and Egypt.
