IGP Gen Kale Kayihura’s reappointment left many opposition leaders threatening to block his vetting process. Also, human rights activists petitioned the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga and the appointments committee pleading them to decline the re-appointment of Kayihura claiming he is accountable for failures of the Police Force.

However, this morning while appearing on NBS TV Morning Breeze show, Robert Rutalo, the Head of Youth and Institutions at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretariat questioned the petition. He stated that the petition lacks merit.

“The petition could have the substance but lacks merit. There is a lot of politics in the petition that was raised. It does not conjure the image of Kayihura”, Rutalo stated.

The former Makerere Guild President said Kayihura has done all what it takes and improved police in all spheres.

“Compared to years before when officers wore patched up trousers, this has been changed. There has been a systematic reduction in the crime rate since Kayihura took office. He has professionalized Police. Currently, the numbers of graduate officers are more than the non-graduates,” he explained.

Rutalo stated that because of the IGP’s “admirable work”, many are eyeing his job.

“IGP Kayihura has made the police force so admirable and I guess that is why most people are eyeing his job”, he concluded.
