Besigye driver speaks out about his job and Betty Kamya

Dr. Kiiza Besigye is one of the opposition politicians in Uganda who has faced  and endured rough times in his pursuit for power. Despite the various encounters with police,  Asuman Ssemakula his driver has been hand and glove to his boss since 2001.



Ssemakula revealed during an interview on NTV, that he was introduced to Besigye by Hon Betty Kamya and he fell in love with his job despite the challenges.

‘’Initially I was working in a carpentry workshop in Kisenyi when my neighbor Betty Kamya told me to join her and support Besigye. She introduced me to Besigye who gave me his car keys certifying me as his driver,’’ Ssemakula said.

Ssemakula who lost his wife in an unexplained scandal related to politics years back is a father to three and he continued to describe his job as A “tough challenge”. 

However, he loves the relationship with his boss.

When asked about his working relationship with Besigye, Ssemakula said he has no regrets working for him and the fact that he is his boss he trusts him too.

Betty Kamya has since taken different political paths from forming her own party to contesting for presidency then finally serving in the government she vehemently opposed. She is currently the Minister of Kampala
