The children and their teachers were also given Arsenal jerseys.

English Premier League side Arsenal FC has a big fan base in Uganda and they are showing back the love. The premier league giants provided funds for a new football pitch for Family of Hope – a school for children with special education needs in Uganda.

The undisclosed amount of money was provided by the Arsenal Foundation.

“It’s the first pitch in the local area and tournaments will be arranged to give children from the surrounding villages the chance to play on it, alongside students from the school. Organisers hope this will help foster new relationships and build understanding,” a statement on www.arsenal.com read.

In addition to funding the new pitch, The Arsenal Foundation has supplied equipment and Arsenal kit to the students – ensuring that everyone at the school knows the club is behind them.

Family of Hope is a UK based charity and it was started by a British teacher Mandy, who visited Uganda and realised there was absence of proper education for special needs children. Many parents were not bothering to take special needs children to school.

Some of the students in the school are deaf, others have cerebral palsy and some are HIV positive.
