There is nobody close to me in a special way — Kayihura denies “special friendship” with arrested Police officers

Following the arrest of two senior police officers Nixon Agasiirwe, the former head of a special operations unit and Joel Aguma, the commandant of the Professional Standards Unit (PSU), the Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura has stated that there is nothing new in arresting officers with such ranks.

“There’s nothing out of the ordinary. Police officers or military officers appear before the court and it’s normal. The magnitude this case has acquired baffles me. We’ve seen high profile officers appear before the court-martial but they’ve never received this kind of attention”,  IGP Kale stated.

Kayihura further distanced himself from having a close personal relationship with the remanded officers saying; “There is no body close to me in a special way. I am the inspector General of Police of all police officers. I don’t know where this idea that I have got a special clique came from. My relationship with any officer is based on work. If you are performing very well you will get my attention. If you are not doing well, my attention towards you will be limited except from a disciplinary point of view”.

Last week the  police officers  were arrested and appeared before general court martial in Makindye on October 30 and were charged with having a connection in the kidnap of Lt Joel Mutabazi, a former body guard of President Paul Kagame.
