The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has forced finance minister, Matia Kasaija to apologize to the house for disowning a parliamentary decision which passed the 1% mobile money taxes.

Kadaga told Parliament that Kasaija, before the budget reading appeared before the media and disowned the said excise duty on mobile money transactions saying Parliament had passed the wrong figure (1%) as his ministry has settled for 0.5%.

“I apologise for the statement by the media attributed to me,” Kasaija said adding that ” I did not say that the House passed the taxes in error. Instead, I applauded Parliament for passing the budget.”
