If you are searching for local sporting action this weekend, you will not find a better option than the Jinja rally.

Following the confirmation by Federation of Motorsport Uganda (FMU) president Dusman Okee that the Jinja Challenge Rally will go on as planned, more than 30 crews have registered for the two-day event—due to happen this weekend.

The crews will on Saturday March 3 rev off in a Super Special Stage at Jinja’s Agricultural show grounds before the anticipated competitive section on Sunday. The rally will cover a total distance of 270 km.

This event picks off from the just concluded season opener in western Uganda—the Lato Milk Mbarara Rally where Jas Mangat broke the deadlock winning from the west after several attempts. Mangat who posted 1:47:42 beat NRC reigning champion Christakis Fitidis who came second as he could only manage six minutes and 37 seconds.

Susan Muwonge was the main surprise in the opener as she made her return by claiming a podium finish, sealing off a third place overall as she posted 1:54:19. However, notable rally drivers Ponsiano Lwakataka, Omar Mayanja and Ronald Sebuguzi who suffered mechanical problems in Mbarara will be hoping to getting back to winning ways if they are to retain an interest in the contest for the title.
