Paapa Were Salim, the Makerere University student who captured the attention of the nation during last year’s Togikwatako protest  has emerged as the winner of the 2018/19 guild presidential elections.

In the symbolic defiance attire, he wore a red head wrap akin to Arabic turban as he carried a rolled mattress from his hall of residence to Parliamentary Building before the Police whisked him away for a few weeks. His ‘legend’ bolstered at the Ivory Tower after he was allegedly placed under Police detention.

It’s not surprising that he won the student’s mandate. The Veterinary Medicine student got 3202 votes while his closest challenger, Kinene Edward got 2267 votes.

Congratulations.
