Katwe Police Division in Kampala is holding Mariam Kusubira, 46, a wife of city pastor Shadrach Kusubira of Noah’s Ark Holiness Church in Namasuba, Kakajjo zone.

Mariam was allegedly ‘kidnapped’ on June 6, 2018, as she was going to buy a plot of land in areas of Nsangi and Kawuku. The captors then phoned the husband demanding for a ransom of Shs50m and daily upkeep of Shs500,000.

On Saturday, June 9, reports emerged that Mariam’s had been found dead in what would be another of the rampant kidnaps mostly targeting women in Kampala and other urban centres. About 72 cases of kidnap according to Uganda Police have been reported since the year started.

This morning, however, the nation woke up to shocking news that Mariam could have masterminded her kidnap and taken the nation for a ride in order to con money from her husband.

As cases of kidnap rise, other ‘sharp’ people have taken advantage of the delicate security situation to kidnap themselves and extort money from their unsuspecting parents, relatives, and spouses. The most recent is the case of Margret Namukose who faked her own kidnap in order to spend the weekend cheating on her boyfriend with another man at Serena Hotel in Kampala.

In a similar fashion, Kusubira faked her own kidnap and subsequent death and is now being held at Katwe Police Division.

Turns out the Pastor’s wife that was reportedly kidnapped, on her way to buy land, for a 50M ransom “and later killed” had faked her own kidnap. She’s now at Katwe Police Station. ? pic.twitter.com/9JgKQafPg2
