Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament, Betty Nambooze who is still in police custody following her arrest on June 14, 2018 has, through her lawyers, Lukwago and Co. Advocates, filed a formal to the Director Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mike Chibita to halt her investigation to allow her time to travel to India for a spine surgery as her health deteriorates.

Nambooze was battling charges of Offensive Communication after she took to social media to write what the Police calls an “unpalatable” posting about fallen colleague, Arua Member of Parliament, Ibrahim Abiriga who together with his bodyguard, Saidi Kongo, were shot dead by unknown assailants.

In their notice, Lukwago pleads that the investigation into Nambooze’s alleged involvement can continue soon after she receives adequate treatment since Kiruddu Hospital where she is currently being held lacks medical facilities to meet her health challenges.

“Prior to her arrest, the client (Betty Nambooze) was scheduled to travel to India for a medical review and specialised treatment upon recommendation by the physician in the same facility who operated her spinal cord a couple of months ago following her brutal arrest and torture at Parliament during the infamous constitutional amendment debate,” the statement read in part.

Police to seizer her laptop, phone

As that is going on, the police have moved to court seeking a court order to confiscate the legislators’ smartphone and laptop where they hope to find evidence linked to Abiriga’s murder and the postings she made soon after.
