Opposition politicians and activists have lauded the police to ensuring a peaceful procession in which women and men alike marched along the streets of Kampala protesting rampant murders and kidnaps in the country.

The protest which was joined by the U.S and French Ambassadors among prominent politicians and diplomats commenced at the Centenary Park to the Railway Grounds.

“The police really ensured everything went well. There was no handbag and phone snatching as is the norm in Kampala,” one of the protesters said.

Stella Nyanzi, the the indefatigable academic and team leader for the Women Protest Working Group – the engineers of the protest credited Gen. Jeje Odongo, the Internal Affairs for overturning IGP’s decision to deny the protest.

“When a powerful man serving Museveni’s regime grants you the freedom to peacefully demonstrate, to assemble, and to freedom of expression, you name that man as an ally,” she said.
