If you thought you’d dodge mobile money tax by using airtime scratch cards to top up, think again.

Airtime vendors have announced a 10% increment on the price of airtime due to the taxes that took effect on July 1.

Henceforth, airtime of Shs1,000 will cost Shs1,100 and that of Shs50,000 to cost Shs55,000.

The new prices have caused an uproar among the public who are already suffering with mobile money and social media taxes.

Telecoms will release a joint statement today according to MTN’s mouthpiece Val Oketcho.

“We have not increased our prices. The vendors are doing this on their own. Customers can in the meantime top up via Easy Load and Mobile Money,” he said.
