Bobi Wine, Kiiza Besigye found me in the struggle – Asuman Basalirwa

As the Bugiri Municipality by-election gets in high gear, candidates have been trading sharp words at each other.

FDC’s Eunice Namatende and Jeema’s President Asuman Basalirwa have not spared each other. Namatende accuses Basalirwa of being sectarian, discriminatory and rallying on Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi’s popularity.

Basalirwa, however, won’t have any of this. He says he has been in the struggle longer than Bobi Wine and Kiiza Besigye combined.

“Bobi Wine found me in the struggle just like Besigye found me in the same struggle. Since 1998, I’ve been trying to bring about political sanitation,” Basalirwa said.

He further denied accusations of abuse and malice saying that “people who vulgarise n abuse are known. You can’t accuse JEEMA and Basalirwa of that,” he said.

“When I am with them I am not sectarian. When I am not with them, am sectarian. In 2006 I even supported Namatende. I took her to my mother who was her campaign agent.”

Namatende, however, says Basalirwa has been rather radical and vicious than ordinary.

“I have never seen Basalirwa this radical but I know he is making his way just as any other politician. Let him not act because of excitement. I wish him the best,” she said.

The by-election will take place on Friday 27, 2018.
