NRM’s Bukooli Central MP Silwany Solomon was chased away from Naluwerere polling station earlier in the day, where JEEMA candidate Asuman Basalirwa is a voter. According to a vigilante group, the MP had intention of bringing voters at the polling station.

The group turned rowdy and forced him out. As they turned more aggressive, the MP used pepper spray to disperse the growing mob.

Speaking after the incident, he blamed Police.

“I blame the Police for looking on as the mob was chasing me. I had to run in the most Kisoga way”, he stated.

He further alleged that Bobi Wine had brought goons from Kampala to disorganise their candidate.

On the other hand, Asuman stated that he had received information that NRM had hired goons to dress in ‘Togikwatako colours’ and wreck havoc.

“Police is recklessly arresting people and I have received news that NRM wants to hire people, dress them in “Togikwatako” attires so they can cause chaos at the polling stations”, he stated.

A total of 16,222 voters are expected to have cast their votes across the 28 polling stations within Bugiri Municipal Council.

EC Spokesperson Jotham Taremwa has promised that the results will be ready tonight.
