According to Magyezi, he saw it coming because he had done sufficient preparation before tabling the bill.  He stated that it was the reason they got overwhelming support of 317 votes out of the required 190 votes to pass the bill.

“I’d like to thank the constitutional court for its ruling, following parliamentary procedure and legal aspects, Parliament did a good job. Democracy demands that we respect the independence of court”, he said.

However, Magyezi expressed his frustration with court ruling against extending parliament tenure from five years to seven. He gave reasons why he commended for tenure extension saying;  “I was in support of the 7 year tenure for two reasons;  For economic reasons, in 20 years, you have four elections as opposed to three elections when MPs have a seven year tenure, the country saves a lot.”

“Secondly, you come out of the election and before you even start your work you’re going into another election, the 7 year tenure gives you time to focus on your work and to me that was valid.”
