Following the President’s remarks about the Electoral Commission being “full of rotten people,” it has since bowed to his pressure and slapped a permanent ban on campaign processions.

On August 13, a campaign procession of the Kassiano Wadri campaign team clashed with that of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) resulting into several crimes including treason.

Museveni alleged in his articles following the arrest of 33 people that women were beaten, raped, one of the cars in his motorcade stoned and several electoral malpractices that caused his party to lose most of the by-elections.

According to the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama, campaign processions have been banned immediately and indefinitely.

This, he says, is to avoid unnecessary chaos, deaths and arrests like the case was in Arua where one of the candidates was in police cells on polling day.
