A delegation from Federation of Uganda Football Association (Fufa) and part of the Uganda Cranes team paid a visit to State House, Entebbe on Monday, November 19 after the weekend heroics at Namboole Stadium. They were hosted by President Yoweri Museveni whom they praised for commitment to local football development.

Well, the visit to State House is said to come with heavy benefits and Fufa was no exception. The proverbial handshake took place!

While addressing media at Fufa’s weekly press briefing, Fufa president Eng Moses Magogo revealed that President Museveni pledged USD 1m (about Shs3.7 bn) as token of appreciation for Uganda Cranes players and officials.

“USD 1m has been paid to the Cranes players and officials as qualification bonus to 2019 Afcon by the President Museveni,” Moses Magogo stated.

Magogo further stated that Cranes’ qualification was not accidental but rather a sign of proper planning.

“Our National Senior football team qualified for Afcon, the Kobs have been in Afcon although they were eliminated by South Sudan, our national Beach soccer team is in Tanzania, the U-17 will be playing the 2019 Afcon. We have started to reap want we sow in the last 4 years.”

In this he urged Ugandans to avoid old fashioned propaganda and  work for the good and development of the game. Despite Cranes having made it back to Afcon, they have a game to close the campaign against Tanzania  due in March next year.
