Fun fare turned to shock, horror and mourning as a boat carrying over 120 revellers in a party boat cruise capsized in Lake Victoria yesterday evening.

The ill-fated boat

According to one of the survivors, the ill-fated boat started leaking while it was stationary in the middle of the lake. The survivor narrates that the boat was stationed at one point as revellers indulged in merry-making.

While in the middle of the lake, one of the workers on the boat noted that the boat had started leaking and warned people to ‘balance the weight’ by moving to another side but all caution fell on deaf ears.

She revealed that one boat with strangers also on a similar party noticed the state of the boat they were in and asked people to join them to safety but only about 12 obliged. She was luckily one of those who left the boat to join the new group.

Upon reaching Motola Island, they were later informed that their colleagues whom they left behind drowned in the lake as the boat capsized!
