Since the real business end of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations kicks off today and Uganda Cranes’ fixture against Senegal is amongst the opening two games, let’s look at the monetary value of the tie.

Firstly, Cranes’ win tonight lands them a match-winning bonus of $4000 (Shs14.6 million) from Federation of Uganda Football Association. A win means progress to the next round (quarter finals) hence a valid prolonged stay in Egypt.

Because of this, players will have to continue earning their daily allowance valued at $150 (Shs553,000) per day, until they play their quarterfinal match on Wednesday. This makes their total earnings $4750 for knocking out Senegal tonight.

Going by the CAF prize money structure of the ongoing campaign, every team that reaches the quarter final is awarded $800,000 (about Shs3 billion). If FUFA is transparent, you will expect Uganda Cranes players to get a percentage of that money as well.

The winner of the 2019 AFCON trophy will take home $4.5 million (about Shs16.9 billion), Runners-up, $2.5 million (about Shs9 billion) and Semifinalists $2.0 million (about Shs7 billion).
