Former Uganda Cranes head coach and now Orlando Pirates gaffer Micho Sredejovic is confident that come AFCON 2019 in June/July, the Cranes will better their performance at the 2017 edition. The former Cranes coach says Uganda’s Group A opponents –hosts Egypt, Zimbabwe and DR Congo– look a hurdle for the boys, but they can be negotiated so that Desabre’s charges make it out of the group.

“It is a very playable group, ” Micho says. “Uganda has DRC to play, and when you have DRC you need to get all three points from them. Second match against Zimbabwe you need to win or draw. All this is possible.”

“I believe in Uganda Cranes and I believe in coach (Sebastien Desabre), I believe the country will provide good preparations for the team,” he added.

The Orlando Pirates coach, however, sees no chance for the other East African teams. He says Burundi, Kenya and Tanzania will only play for pride.

2019 AFCON starts on June 21 as hosts Egypt will play Zimbabwe. The Cranes will open their campaign against DR Congo the following day.
