Football lovers will no longer have to leave their sitting rooms to follow 2019 Africa Cup of Nations action. This comes after the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga ordered government to fund Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) to broadcast the games that kickoff on Friday in Egypt.

Kadaga instructed the ICT Minister, Frank Tumwebaze to follow up funding of 350,000 Euros (about Shs1.5 billion) to facilitate procurement of broadcast rights to air all games.

In 2017, UBC failed to secure rights to air AFCON games despite the national team breaking the 39 years jinx to partake of the continental tourney.

Lagardère Sports and Entertainment offered the rights to UBC through the Africa Union of Broadcasters (AUB) at €550,000 (Shs2.1 billion at the time) but UBC could not raise the money.
