If Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli’s statements are to go by, our neighbours in the south might just be the first East African country to be free from coronavirus.

News coming in from Tanzania indicates that Magufuli has declared the country free from COVID-19 after nearly four months of fighting the pandemic that according to statistics that were last released in April, had infected 509 people.

When the COVID-19 infection numbers were soaring in Tanzania, Magufuli took numerous measures to tackle the disease but none of them included full lockdown of the country like other East Africa Countries Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda did.

Instead, Magufuli imported the Madagascan herbal tea called COVID Organics to treat patients and urged his people to rely solely on God, and so he kept all worship places open. Now, they are reaping the fruits of putting all their trust in God. Magufuli has thanked his people for keeping the country in prayer to defeat the virus.

“I want to thank Tanzanians of all faiths. We have been praying and fasting for God to save us from the pandemic that has afflicted our country and the world. But God has answered us. I believe, and I’m certain that many Tanzanians believe, that the corona disease has been eliminated by God,” Magufuli said during a church service in the capital, Dodoma.

Prior to this announcement, last week on Friday, Magufuli said that the country had been left with only four COVID-19 patients in Dar-es-Salaam, and declared that “corona is finished.”

Well done, Tanzania. Tunamshukuru Mungu.
