Bus and taxi drivers ask Gov’t to extend waiver to carry passengers without completing KCCA registration

Yesterday was the end of the three-day grace period that Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) granted to taxis and buses to carry people that had been stranded in bus and taxi parks without necessarily completing registration. Passengers were sleeping in the parks due to lack of buses and taxis to take them to their destinations.

With this waiver, people have travelled but others are still stranded in the terminals because most buses and taxis are not yet on the road since they have not yet registered with KCCA amongst other requirements.

Now, the taxi and bus drivers have asked government to extend the grace period to allow them carry passengers as registration is going on. These are requesting government to assess the impact of the first three days and extend the waiver for at least six more days.
