State Minister for Tourism Godfrey Kiwanda has pulled out of the race for Mityana North Member of Parliament. Kiwanda announced he was quitting in a tearful address in his constituency and his rival Kibedi Ensi Egumile will sail through unopposed on the ruling NRM party ticket.

Kiwanda said his decision is after consultations with the leadership of the party. However, sources say President Yoweri Museveni ‘forced’ Kiwanda to give way to Kibedi and concentrate on his new party position as the Vice Chairperson for Central Region on the Central Executive Committee (CEC).

Kiwanda has represented Mityana North constituency for three terms and had started campaigning in the NRM primaries to seek for the fourth term.
