Last year, the statement “Omwavu wa kufa” which is loosely translated as “The poor will die” became one of the most used catchphrases in the country by people trying to make light of their financial situation.

At the beginning of this year, a muppet character “Kermit the frog” was attached to the catchphrase and news broke out that the beloved Omwavu had died. The country went through hours of agony until we were told by Omwavu’s family to disregard the fake news of Omwavu’s death.

The news of Omwavu being still under the living has been widely happily welcomed by Ugandans and they have gone wild on social media to celebrate with memes, and by press time, the hashtag #Omwavu is trending on twitter.
