StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL) leaders Vipers Sports Club take on second-placed KCCA Football Club in the standout game of the midweek. The tipped title contenders’ game will be played at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende and each side has a task and chance to boost their title hopes.

Defending champions KCCA were 1-0 winners against the Venoms in the first round fixture held at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo. Hosts Vipers have only lost once in their last five fixtures; a 1-0 loss against SC Villa. For the Kasasiro Boys, they have lost twice; 2-1 against URA and Bright Stars.

With nine games to the end of the league, none of the sides can afford to drop points. Vipers hope to stretch their lead to eight points while KCCA want to close the gap to two points. Currently Vipers lead on 49 points while KCCA trail second on 44 points.

Viper’s Karim Watambala tackling KCCA’s Keziron Kizito in their last encounter.

The fixture is a modern day rivalry contest as both sides have a lot in common. This tie will also see players face their former teammates. In the KCCA team Sekisambu Erisa, Sadam Juma, Simon Sserunkuma, Keziron Kizito all once featured for Vipers. On the other hand, Paul Mucureezi and Tito Okello played for KCCA.

“We are fired up ahead of this game. We want to close the gap between us and the leaders. We have no pressure and this is not the title decider. We will take it like any other game. We shall play our way and hopefully we can pick maximum points against Vipers SC,” said KCCA Head Coach Mike Mutebi.
