Presidential Aspirant Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde is currently the hottest topic of discussion in the political arena after he officially submitted his letters to the Electoral Commission requesting to carry out countrywide consultations.

While appearing on NBS TV’s Morning Breeze today, Tumukunde said just like some of the past aspirants in presidential race, all of them had no intentions of becoming President but the high demand for change has made them offer themselves for the position.

“The presidency is not a seat for an individual. Where would Uganda be if President Museveni ‘stayed in bed’ with Obote?” Tumukunde asked.

Tumukunde however said he did not wake up one day and decide to take up the mantle of becoming President. He said the people of Kampala gave him confidence to try the presidential seat during his consultative meetings for becoming Lord Mayor.

The bush war general of course admits to being attached to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party but said NRM gives no space to discuss ideas.

“If in a political party you can’t find space for ideas, leave. There is no space for ideas in the NRM,” he said, before adding that, “It is a crime to ask about a peaceful transition.”

The former Security Minister said his job in the race is to ensure a peaceful transition.

“We have to continue speaking for change until it happens,” he said.
