After confirmation of a coronavirus case by the Ministry of Health last night, President Yoweri Museveni has addressed the country about where government is standing in light of this.

The President continued to urge the general public to follow all the directives he issued on Wednesday, and all those that have been issued by the Ministry of Health in order to prevent the spread of the virus.

The President said that because of the many people that are still at the airport, they are planning to use some schools for institutional quarantine, and they will have to disinfect them every day so that the virus does not stay there.

Museveni also wondered why people want to shake hands and elbow each other so much, saying, “I don’t know why people are dying to shake hands and elbow each other. I don’t want anyone to elbow me. I have seen you, I have greeted you. These are idiotic things.”

President Museveni noted that the closure of mass gathering events, concerts, bars, night clubs, churches, mosques and schools was a good move, but the worry is now with public transport. He has commanded the proprietors to have disinfectants for passengers to wash their hands before boarding and while coming out of the cars.

He also advised that if you don’t have your own means of transport, stay home, and the same was directed to students that were sent home to stay there, and stop loitering round trading centers which may expose them to the virus.

District health authorities have been put in charge, and told to be active to do what they have been trained over the years.
