As of now, Uganda has nine confirmed coronavirus cases after the confirmation of eight more cases last night by the Ministry of Health. These new cases are all Ugandans that came back to last week from Dubai aboard Fly Emirates and Ethiopian airlines.

This prompted the Minister of Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng to call upon all those that flew into the country from Dubai in the last two weeks to report to the Ministry of Health for a check-up, and receive treatment where necessary.

Today, President Museveni has addressed the country about the development and maintained that the directives he issued should be followed if we are to prevent the virus from spreading further, but the only challenge remaining now is public transport.

The President said that currently, they are monitoring the situation of those that were quarantined as well as tracking down all those they might have associated with. If the virus keeps spreading, the President said that public transport maybe suspended, and replaced with cycling.

“We may have to suspend public transport and promote cycling. I have talked to those Luweero industries to set up the factory quickly because in the future we may need to use bicycles to get around,” Museveni said.

Earlier today, the Ministry of Health directed taxis to keep passengers apart, and the traffic Police later impounded those that were carrying more than two passengers on a seat.
