Health Ministry confirms to have identified all the 574 individuals that travelled from Dubai in the past two weeks

In battle to fight the further spread of the deadly COVID-19 in Uganda, the Ministry of Health has revealed some good news confirming that it has managed to identify all the 574 passengers that travelled from Dubai in the past two weeks.

In a statement released by Director General Health Services Dr Henry Mwebesa this evening, he said 129 have been put under institutional quarantine. Mwebesa added that out of the 129 individuals, 40 showed COVID-19 like symptoms and their samples were taken.

“Fortunately all the 40 samples tested negative of COVID-19,” Mwebesa said.

To date, a total of 2,661 travellers including Ugandans identified as potential risk have been either under self-quarantine or institutional quarantine. Of these, 1,356 are under follow up; 774 of these are under institutional quarantine while 582 are under self-quarantine.

“A total of 1431 high risk travellers has completed their 14 days institutional quarantine and have been issued certificates of completion of mandatory quarantine,” he said.

The health ministry has urged the public to continue obeying all the set guidelines and also report suspected cases of Coronavirus. Uganda has 14 confirmed cases of COVID-19 pandemic.
