Today, President Museveni addressed the country to clarify on the directives he gave yesterday that had confused the general public. As people were wondering why the President left supermarkets open and banned transport, he clarified that people do not have to go all the way to town, they can just walk to the nearest supermarkets in their neighbourhoods.

Museveni also said that they are working on getting protective gear for health workers, importing some materials from China so they can produce them locally.

Museveni strongly warned all politicians that want to distribute food, calling them opportunists and enemies, and should they be caught doing so, they will be arrested and charged with attempted murder

“If you have a contribution to make bring it to the task force. We shall put you on TV, if you want, we shall even arrange for you to sleep there,” Museveni said.

People providing essential services like bank managers, medical workers and media will get stickers from the Ministry of Works and Transport to put on their cars for easy movement.

Museveni promised jail to District officers who refuse to hand over cars to be used by the Health Ministry for emergency services, saying, “District Officials that have refused to give up cars to be used will go to jail. They are idiots. There is a place called Luzira, have you heard of Luzira?”

On the distribution of food to the vulnerable groups, Museveni said, “Majority of Ugandans feed themselves. We will provide food to those groups of people who were earning daily, for about a month or so until the situation normalises.” This distribution will be handled by the National Taskforce.

The President ended his address with announcing the confirmation of 11 new coronavirus cases in the country got from the 176 samples tested today. All these new cases are children of the Watoto choir who had recently travelled abroad. They are all in quarantine.

This means that the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Uganda stands at 44.
