Following the partial easing of the countrywide lockdown that was instituted in late March to stem the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, Ruparelia Group has moved to open some of the hotels and restaurants under their Speke Group of Hotels.

“Kabira Country Club, Speke Apartments, Bukoto Heights, Boulevard Apartments, Speke Apartments Kitante, and Speke Resort Munyonyo are now open and operating,” Group Chairman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia said.

The award-winning La Cabana Restaurant at Speke Apartments on Wampewo Avenue, famed for Brazilian style grills is also now open. The restaurant will, however, be operating at half capacity with enough space within the tables to ensure social distancing.

“Speke Hotel (in the Kampala Central business district), Forest Cottages (Bukoto), and Dolphin Suites (Bugolobi) will open soon,” he added.

The facilities that have been opened are strictly following the social distancing rules including mandatory wearing of masks, temperature checks, use of sanitizers and 24-hour disinfection of the premises.

In addition, last week, the biggest conference facility in the country, Speke Resort Munyonyo, mapped out new ways of sitting while following social distancing guidelines.

After the opening of private transport on Tuesday, Uganda is moving to ease the lockdown with public transport expected to resume on June 4.
