Confirmed COVID-19 cases in Uganda surpass 500 with 18 new infections from yesterday’s tests

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Uganda has surpassed 500, standing at 507 after the Ministry of Health confirmed 18 new cases from yesterday’s tests.

From the 1,086 samples tested today, 18 new cases include four cases for truck drivers who arrived from South Sudan via Elegu, two cases from Malaba border point, whereas 12 cases are alerts and contacts to previously confirmed cases.

Of the 12 cases from contacts and alerts, eight are from Amuru, three are from Buikwe and one from Kyotera districts.

The 21 positive foreign truck drivers (13 Kenyans, three Tanzanians, four Eritreans and one Congolese) were handed to their country of origin. Total Recoveries also increased to 82 after three more patients were discharged after making full recovery from the disease.

Uganda has not registered any COVID-19 deaths. As the country enters another phase of easing the lockdown by allowing public transport to reopen tomorrow, the general public has been advised to keep following the directives as they have been doing in the previous months, and put on a face mask whenever they are in the public.
