Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in Uganda in March this year, different opposition players have accused President Museveni of exploiting COVID-19 to grow his politic strength for the 2021 electoral advantage.

This is after amongst the many measures that government has issued to fight the pandemic, it banned large gatherings which halted political activities like rallies and meetings.

In an exclusive interview with NBS TV, Museveni called those who think he is using the COVID-19 situation to gain political mileage ‘idiots.’ He stated that he never wished for COVID-19 to come to Uganda.

To date, Museveni has made over 15 nation addresses about COVID-19 making him the most popular figure in the media currently.

Former Ethics and Integrity Minister, Miria Matembe has said that politically, COVID-19 has been a blessing in disguise to Museveni especially as the country heads to the much-anticipated 2021 General Elections.

“There has never been a better time for Museveni to win an election than now when there is no opposition presidential candidate in Public at all so I am certain come 2021, elections are on,” Matembe said in a tweet.
