23-year-old Double Commonwealth Games gold medallist Joshua Cheptegei will today be gracing track to compete in the 5000m at the Wanda Diamond League in Monaco.

Cheptegei will be targeting to break the competition world record time of 12:37.35 minutes set by Ethiopian runner Kenenisa Bekele in 2004.

“Just to break it would be awesome for me even if by micro seconds. I mean of course not so many people can do world record. So it will be an historical moment,” said Cheptegei while speaking to BBC Africa Sports.

Uganda’s female long-distance runners Halimah Nakaayi and Winnie Nanyondo will also be in contest tonight. The races will be live on Supersport 8  at 9:13pm and 9:39pm respectively.
