Death toll rises to 13 as Uganda confirms 49 new COVID-19 cases

Ministry of Health has today confirmed 49 new COVID-19 cases taking the cumulative total confirmed cases in Uganda to 1,434.

Amongst the 49 new cases: 37 are alerts (17 from Kampala, 2 from Wakiso, 14 from Namisindwa, 1 from Kiryandongo, 2 from Mbarara & Lamwo), six are contacts to previously confirmed cases (1 from Bushenyi and 5 from Kampala), four (4) are returnees (three from Saudi Arabia and one from USA) while two truck drivers arrived from Kenya via Malaba Point of Entry.

Additionally 19 foreign truck drivers tested positive for COVID-19 at the border points of entry and their entry into the country was not permitted.

The ministry also confirmed one COVID-19 death today. This brings the total COVID-19 deaths to 13. The deceased is a 50 year old Ugandan male, resident of Kiryandongo who presented with COVID like signs and symptoms.

The cumulative total recoveries are also continuing to rise as they currently stand 1,142.
