Speaker Rebecca Kadaga has admitted that the NRM national Chairperson and President Yoweri Museveni was the main beneficiary of the removal of age limits in 2017.

Kadaga said she bravely facilitated the amendment of the Constitution under article 102 to enable continuity of the NRM ideology and also help President Museveni seek reelection.

“We did it, if it wasn’t the removal of the Age limit President Museveni would be now preparing to go to Lwakitula,” Kadaga said while appearing on a local TV station this morning.

The Speaker added; “In very difficult circumstances, I have demonstrated my commitment to the party throughout.”

In 2017, parliament successfully scrapped off the presidential age-limit of 75 years and also lowered the age eligibility for President from 35 to 18 years. 317 MPs, mainly from NRM voted in favour of the amendment.

Last week, President Museveni was endorsed at the ruling party flag bearer in the upcoming presidential race.

Kadaga is currently seeking for reelection on the NRM Central Executive Committee as the 2nd party National Vice Chairperson. She also already expressed her intentions to re-run as the Kamuli District Woman Member of Parliament in the forthcoming general elections.
