With Uganda becoming one of the high risk countries for COVID-19 as the country has 25,730 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 9605 recoveries and 220 deaths, the Ministry of Health has noted with concern that positive COVID-19 asymptomatic patients who have been allowed to undergo home-based care are not adhering to the guidelines.

The ministry says the patients are instead freely mixing with the community e.g using public transport, work places and markets etc.

According to Dr. Henry Mwebesa, the Director General Health Services, asymptomatic patients are laboratory confirmed cases infected with COVID-19 but who don’t develop symptoms. He however says that even with no symptoms they still spread the infection.

“The Ministry of Health has directed all positive COVID-19 asymptomatic patients to isolate themselves from home or be admitted at designated auxiliary centres,” says Mwebesa is a statement.

He has also advised positive COVID-19 asymptomatic patients to take medication as prescribed by their health workers, wash hands regularly with clean water and soap or use an alcohol based sanitizer and wear a mask.
