Chairman of the ruling party NRM and incumbent President Yoweri Museveni has continued to hold up the idea of scientific elections especially since the country is battling with COVID-19 pandemic.

In an exclusive interview with the national broadcaster Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC), Museveni said mass rallies are only an African culture for merry making (okujaguza). And if campaigns are about passing on ideas/message, Uganda has enough radios and televisions to facilitate the scientific campaigning process.

“Politicians can communicate to their voters through radios especially in the evening when people are at home. I’m a Christian & I have never met Jesus, I’ve never held a meeting with Jesus but I get the message by reading the Bible,” Museveni said.

Museveni claimed that it should be the NRM to get scared of the scientific campaigns because the media is Anti-government.

“Most of the media houses are opposition. If you’re to quantify the media I think you could say that 80% is Anti-NRM but NRM has survived inspite of all these liars,” Museveni said.

On the issue of involving tribal sentiments during campaigns, Museveni said Identity is not a problem in Uganda. He said it’s just being used by opportunists.

“I am ready a debate with the sectarians. It’s not just enough to shut them up; it’s also good to defeat their logic. If they go beyond argument and try to do anything we shall deal with them,” he said.
