Besigye says young people in politics have no clear mission as a generation, “They’ve only focused on wiping out the old generation”

Dr Kizza Besigye’s decision not to stand in 2021 is arguably the most discussed development in the events building up to the next general election. The public has had mixed reactions on the development.

While appearing on NTV The Spot last evening, Besigye said he’s not going to contest for elections but he will continue fighting for his freedom vigorously.

The opposition strongman however said the new breed of young politicians must interrogate themselves on how they are going to survive.

Besigye said the current young generation has only focused on wiping out the old generation a strategy that might add nothing valuable to the struggle.

“They (young people) must be clear what their mission is as a generation. In our (old) generation, we served our mission and we were clear, our mission was to transfer power but we have failed,” Besigye said.

He added, “If the young people are all about wiping out the old and taking over because it’s their time, is it okay for Muhoozi (first son) to take over because he is a young person?”

The four-time presidential candidate said unity amongst the opposition will put them in pole position to win the struggle.

“If we are united, we can have change in one week. I will rally and mobilize all opposition contestants looking for change to form a joint platform. That would have been hard if I was one of the competitors,” he said.
