FDC’s Ssemujju Nganda claims Museveni determines how his opponents compete against him

With 2021 general elections fast approaching, duly nominated Kira Municipality Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate Hon Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has claimed that Uganda’s entire election process is controlled by one person, President Yoweri Museveni.

Ssemujju said that Museveni determines the fate of his opponents and how they must engage in the electoral process.

“If he says you should be beaten, you are going to be beaten,” said Ssemujju.

“Mr Museveni determines how you will compete against him if he finds out that you are going to cause trouble, he will remove the trouble and you will remain with no trouble,” he added.

The Kira Municipality legislator said that he’s no longer surprised by how security forces treat opposition candidates. He said they’re under immense pressure from the ‘above’.

“If they don’t beat the Opposition, there will be no rank, there will be questions to be answered. So that’s why sometimes they act the way they do,” he said.

Ssemujju was yesterday intercepted by police on his way to the nomination center in Kira. He was faulted for holding a procession contrary to the COVID-19 rules.

The opposition Chief whip said the selective application of COVID-19 laws by enforcement authorities has forced people to violate the guidelines.

“If NRM people can organise elections, have processions and I’m competing with them, I will be a very stupid candidate if I failed to offer myself because of COVID-19. If we take a risk as a country, we all must risk together,” he said.
