With the death toll rising to 29 and political tension in the nation because of the  arrest of the National Unity Platform presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, veteran journalist Andrew Mwanda has expressed his doubts on the reason why Kyagulanyi was arrested.

“I don’t think Covid 19 is the reason why Bobi Wine has been  arrested. It is just a perfect excuse,”said Andrew Mwenda.

Mwenda also said that it’s been an habit for the opposition candidates to be arrested during elections.

“This has been the menu of every election in this country. The only thing I am surprised about is that Bobi Wine and Amuriat have given Museveni an excuse to arrest them,” said Mwenda

The Forum for Democratic Change Presidential candidate Patrick Amuriat  was also arrested but later released that night on Police bond.

Today marks the third day since Kyagulanyi was arrested for reportedly flouting the EC guidelines on COVID -19, it is believed that he was granted bond which he declared. Kyagulanyi has been denied access to his lawyers and immediate family.
