The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate President Yoweri Museveni has blamed the opposition for being intolerant yet they claim to be democratic.

Museveni said as  the country gears up for the January 14 polls, young people must be alert to the foreign influence in Uganda’s politics and choose leaders who will the protect the country’s heritage.

He said opposition has no clear ideologies to convince Ugandans to support them hence they have decided to deploy violent acrostics.

“NRM supporters were beaten and harassed for simply identifying the party and its symbols. If you are a democrat why don’t you want others to express themselves? Why do you attack those who put on yellow? You want to force people to do what you want whether they believe it or not?” Museveni said.

Museveni also hit at fellow presidential candidate Kyagulanyi Robert Sentamu for holding political views that favour a return to a previous political state which NRM ended 35 years ago.

“Stop calling Bobi Wine radical because to be radical means you are moving in the right direction at a great speed. People like Bobi Wine are not radical but reactionary,” he said.

The NRM presidential candidate will return to his campaign trail on Saturday in Kabale.
