Incumbent Yoweri Museveni will be extending his 35-year rule to 40 years after the Independent Electoral Commission (EC) declared winner of the January 14 presidential elections.

According to results announced by EC Chairman Simon Byakabama, Museveni gathered 5.85 million votes securing 58.64 per cent of the total valid votes casted.

The National Unity Platform presidential flag bearer came second with 3.475 million votes which is 34.83 percent of the total valid votes. The voter turnout was 52 percent.

Following the announcement on Saturday, Museveni held a Nation address where he thanked his supporters for trusting him with his votes. He said the election might turn out to be the most cheating-free election since 1962.

Museveni also warned against any kind of violence as he urged those contesting the results to follow the law.

“Nobody is going to cause chaos here, because whoever tries to, we will break him, because it’s no joke. There is nobody who is above us in knowing how to handle guns. There is nobody who is above us in fighting,” he said.

For Bobi Wine, he claims that since Friday he has been under house arrest as his Magere home is surrounded by heavy deployment.
