He returns for the second stint as Cranes head coach having taken charge of the team between 2013-2017. The most memorable achievement during his first tenure, Micho led Uganda to the first AFCON Finals after 39 years.

Micho has appointed Livingstone Mbabazi as his first assistant and Fred Kajoba as goal keeping coach. And will be joined by Ivan Ssewanyana (physiotherapist) and Geofrey Massa(team manager).

FUFA President Moses Magogo said that one of the hardest tasks is to choose a national team coach as whenever they announce the position, they get over 1000 applications.

He however believes that they made the right choice to reappoint Micho as he is better than when he left.

“The objective is to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in 2026. It does not come overnight. You need time and experience. I ask Ugandans to be very, very patient since we are in a transition,” said Magogo.
